I love chocolate milk. As a kid I would pour Hershey’s Chocolate Syrup straight into my mouth, right out of the squeeze bottle. Now, I know how bad that was for me. The first two ingredients on the label are high fructose corn syrup and corn syrup. Those are followed by water, and then sugar before finally getting around to the chocolate part (cacao).
There are so many benefits to eating raw cacao. It has been shown to contain the highest concentration of antioxidants out of any food in the world. It is also a great source of magnesium, iron, and trace minerals such as chromium, manganese, copper and zinc. Not to mention the high amount of Vitamin C it has. Another benefit of raw cacao? It contains Omega-6 fatty acids. As David Wolfe says in his book, Superfoods, “All cooked and processed chocolate contains rancid omega-6 fatty acids (trans fat) that can cause an inflammatory reaction.” So… avoid the trans fats and rancid omegas, and eat raw cacao!
I love to have cacao first thing in the morning. It does not contain caffeine like coffee, but I find that it gives me a nice boost to get my day started.
One of Rob’s cousins got me hooked on his chocolate “milk.” It tastes so much better than the chocolate milk I would make for myself as a kid.
In a Vita-mix or high speed blender add the following:
1 1/2 cups water
2 tablespoons raw cacao
1 tablespoon hemp seeds
1-2 tablespoons agave or honey (to taste)
Blend on high until smooth and enjoy.
