I’m surprised that I’m writing about this here. I don’t really like to share really personal things about myself… especially on the Internet. But here it goes… Years ago I contracted a fungus while climbing at the local rock climbing gym. I had no idea what it was, in the beginning it looked like a bug bite, or maybe a wart. But, it didn’t go away. It was so itchy, I just thought it was a bug bite, but after a month or so of itching, it started to spread. Slowly, very slowly, it spread from one little dot on my pinkie to nearly half of my pinkie. It would never go away, but there were times when it wasn’t so bad (usually during the summer when the weather is more humid) and times when it was a lot worse. Eventually, it spread from my pinkie down my hand, to my ring finger, and most recently to my thumb.
It’s been years, and I’ve just been dealing with the symptoms. I use gloves when I wash dishes because soap and water aggravate the itchy, dry red patches. I went to a dermatologist years ago, but all they did was give me steroid creams.
It’s October, so our humid summer is all most over and winter with it’s dry weather is coming. My hand has never been this red and aggravated before, so it’s time for me to unroot the fungus from body.
Beets are an amazing food. They are known to be an anti cancerous food, it is rich in iron, it purifies our blood, kidneys and helps make our bodies more alkaline. Beet juice stimulates our brain to release toxins. And, because of it’s high folic acid content, it is considered to be one of the best “youthing” vegetables. Regular consumption of raw beets helps hair, skin and nails to become healthier. Not to mention that beets are a great all over detoxifying food!
The mini beet protocol was suggested to me as a way to help eliminate my body from the excess of fungus which is growing. I’m not suggesting that this is a cure, it’s just something I’m trying, because at this point, I’ll try just about anything (besides any medicine from the doctor).
There are a few options when doing the protocol. I’ve chosen to do one that is juice based. I juice 1 cup each of beet, fennel and a 50/50 mixture of celery and carrot. After this, I eat an apple or two. So far, so good, though I’m not much a fan of the fennel juice (yet). If you read about the protocol online, you’ll see that people talk about the beet juice. I’ve had some people tell me that they drank the beet juice by itself and were puking their guts out within minutes. I’ve had others tell me that they’ve never had a problem drinking straight beet juice. Everyone is different, but the detoxing effects from beets can be severe, so you need to take it easy and be careful as you start out. Fennel is also detoxifying, and the carrots and celery juice and apple are taken to help offset any detox symptoms.
Yesterday was day one. Today is day two. Because I’ve let the fungus take such a root in me (it’s been at least 3 and a half years) I’m sure this is going to take a while. Stay posted for progress!
